THE MIRACLE DRUG

About 600 years ago, scholar Sheikh Abou’l Hasan of Yemen had a follower and a disciple by the name 'Sheikh Omar'.

Sheikh Omar was gifted with the power of curing people sickness through prayers.

One day, because of some misunderstanding he was banished from Mocha (Yemen).

During his exile, he made a desert cave near Ousab (now Wusab) his shelter.

A man living in a cave does not have access to basic facilities.

So he had to survive on the nature surrounding him.

While hunting for food, he encountered some wild berries in nearby shrubbery.

He took a bite and found them bitter in taste.

As there was no other choice of food for him, he had to survive on the berries.

To make it eatable, he roasted the seed of berries to improve the flavor.

But they became hard.

He did not give up.

Next, he tried something different.

He boiled the berries to soften the seeds.

The boiling effect resulted in a fragrant brown liquid.

Tired and hungry, he stopped his experiment and drank the brown liquid.

The brown liquid had an incredible effect on him.

It revitalized him and curbed his hunger for days.

The berries became a miracle drug for him.

The news of this miracle drug reached Mocha.

Sheikh Omar was called back to Mocha and honored as a Saint for discovering the miracle drug.

This brown liquid or the miracle drug is nothing but the COFFEE.

The coffee plant was then introduced into the World by Arab merchants.

There are other accounts which point to different sources of the origination of Coffee, but the above incident is preserved in Abd-Al Kadir Manuscript.

During the exile, Sheikh Omar would not have the slightest idea that the wild seeds he is boiling to curb his hunger will turn into a famous energized drink that would be available in almost every households.
